TRIAL POINTERS
ROSEHILL May 9: Renowned front runner IKNOWASTAR did his thing to win the fastest 1030m heat (61.03; 34.27), opening up a big lead after 300m and cruising home by almost eight lengths in his first trial since October. He's the winner of 10 of his 25 starts and is obviously going well but it must be noted he is yet to win in six first-up attempts. Shalaa filly SWORDPLAY is another sharp 2YO runner for the Baker stable. She's now won two trials and again showed natural speed to dominate the fastest 900m heat (54.06; 34.79), leading easily and booting clear over the last 200m to score by more than four lengths. The placegetter THE PEARLS is also worth following out of the juvenile heats.
NEWCASTLE May 7: HAWKER HALL lived up to his earlier trials when he won his maiden at Newcastle on April 23 and his reputation will grow after this impressive win in the fastest 800m heat (45.71; 33.17). Sped to a big lead and was cruising from the turn to coast home by 4.5 lengths with third horse 12 lengths away.
RANDWICK May 5: Confident Lonhro colt MATIMA is a good prospect for Godolphin. Won his only start at Hawkesbury last month and had plenty to offer in his 740m heat (45.42; 34.69) finishing an easy third under no pressure. SIGNOR TORTONI, a maiden gelding by Too Darn Hot was placed twice from his first three starts early in the season and he will go on with it this prep after looking a class above his rivals with an easy win in his 740m heat (44.95; 34.37).
WARWICK FARM April 29: Bjorn Baker won three of the six 2YO heats with unraced youngsters. Mark down his sharp 796m heat winners SWORDPLAY (47.03; 34.40) and MARINERA (47.30; 34.13) as a pair ready to perform when they debut. Other 2YOs to make an impression included NIGHTSPHERE.
