Colt out of unraced half-sister to legendary mare to debut in Todman Stakes.
Black Caviar never made it to the Golden Slipper, but one of the legendary mare's nephews will this weekend audition for a spot in the $5 million Group 1.
John, Wayne and Michael Hawkes-trained colt Nepotism will debut in the $300,000 Group 2 Todman Stakes (1200m).
By Brutal, Nepotism is out of the unraced Casino Prince mare Brigite, who is a half-sister to Black Caviar.
That champion mare, who retired undefeated after 25 starts, won two races as a juvenile but was not quite ready for the Golden Slipper.
Nepotism will become the closest relation to the champion mare to run in the world's richest two-year-old race if he finds his way into the field for the race at Rosehill on March 22.
Black Caviar and Brigite are among six named-foals out of Desert Sun mare Helsinge, four of whom raced, with All Too Hard the other to win at two.
All Too Hard, a brother to Brigite, was in the frame to contest the 2012 Golden Slipper, winning the Talindert Stakes and VRC Sires' Produce at his first two starts, but Hawkes Racing opted against it.
Black Caviar, who died last August, had eight foals, six of whom have raced, four of them at two but none were juvenile winners.
Nepotism will become the fourth to race from Brigite, whose first two foals – Heir Apparent and Tapin' Three – got the races at two but failed to win.
Nepotism, a $160,000 purchase at last year's Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, is raced by several of Black Caviar's owners, and his breeders Gilgai Farm, and his preparations for debut have included placings in trials at Rosehill and Warwick Farm.
Drawn barrier three in the Todman Stakes, Nepotism is a $23 chance in a market headed by Golden Slipper favourite Wodeton at $2.20.
