A look at some of the high-quality mares-in-foal who will be offered at the Chairman’s Sale
A star-studded line-up of mares 'off the track' will be offered at Inglis on Thursday night, but there is also plenty of high-quality bloodstock in-foal to some of the country's top stallions.
Lot 18 – UNDER YOUR SPELL
Yarraman Park will offer the South African seven-year-old, who brings a unique pedigree to the sale being a Group 1-winning daughter of Capetown Noir from a European female family stacked with Black Type. Adding to her appeal is that she is in-foal to Australia's champion stallion of the past three seasons, I Am Invincible.
Lot 40 – CALAVERITE
The Gimcrack Stakes winner will soon celebrate her 13th birthday, but will still hold appeal as the dam of a Caulfield Guineas winner – Golden Mile – who is in-foal top one of the country's top stallions, Zoustar. Calaverite, who is being offered by Merricks Station, is not the only mare who has thrown a Caulfield Guineas winner to be offered with Sebring mare Chateau Griffo, the dam of Griff, also up for grabs.
Lot 44 – CATCHY
In between Calaverite and Chateau Griffo, 2017 Blue Diamond winner Catchy will head through the ring as part of the Noorilim Park draft. The 10-year-old daughter of Fastnet Rock is pregnant to Capitalist with what will be her fifth foal.
Lot 55 – ENBIHAAR
Just two days after a Too Darn Hot colt out of the Group 2 winner and Group 1 Blue Diamond runner-up set a new Australian Weanling Sale record, when sold for $775,000, buyers will get a chance to buy the dam herself. The daughter of Magnus is being offered by Widden Stud in-foal to Zoustar with what will be her fifth foal. The second of those foals, Too Darn Lizzie, a sister to the $775,000 colt, will be offered earlier in the night as a racing and breeding prospect.
Lot 79 – LUDISIA
The British mare never raced, but is one of only two daughters of Frankel to be offered and hails from a class-laden female family. Her dam, Observatory mare African Rose, won a Doncaster Sprint Cup at Group 1 level and was crowned French Champion 3YO Sprinter and is a sister to the dam of not only Calyx, but also Native Trail, the European Champion 2YO Colt from 2021.
Among the other broodmares to be offered are Cap Ferrat's sister Aurora Lights, who is in-foal to Written Tycoon, Field Of Play's dam Californiasurprise and Jestajingle, the dam of Bruckner who produced the top lot at last year's Premier Sale.
