‘He looks poised to strike off a rating of 67’ - Sam King’s daily wagers

Sam King tipped Sword (13/2) to score at Leicester yesterday and is back with two selections on Wednesday.

The summer racing really is beginning to go through the gears, with the Oaks and Derby taking centre stage this weekend, while Royal Ascot is peeping its head around the corner.

There are some really nice types on show at Nottingham this afternoon, with High Approval and Zelaina both interesting two-year-olds debutants for Wathnan Racing.

However, the best bet comes from Ripon, where Paul Midgley is taken to extend his excellent form in the five-furlong Class 5 handicap at 8.22.

It's no coincidence that Paul Midgley has won three of the four running's of this contest and it looks as he's gunning for glory in it once more, with reigning champion Herakles and Rock Of England both lining up to take their chance.

Herakles is impossible to ignore racing off 9lb higher than when successful in this twelve months ago, but he arrives in good heart last season and the came can't really be said this time around. With that in mind, Rock Of England is taken to strike for the first time since joining the Paul Midgley team.

Despite being 0-13 since moving stables, Rock Of England has posted some good efforts in defeat, including when a quite an eye-catching staying-on fourth at Carlisle sixteen days ago.

He hasn't won since scoring off a mark of 82 back in August 2023, but he's fairly tumbled down the weights as a result and looks poised to strike off a rating of 67 with the hugely underrated David Nolan doing the steering from gate four.

1pt Win – Rock Of England

Odds – 3/1

Just thirty minutes after Rock Of England hopefully finds the back of the net, I'm hoping Precious Spartan can complete a quickfire double in the finale at 8.52.

Trained by the shrewd Patrick Neville, Precious Spartan made a mockery of his 16/1 price when scooting clear against the far rail to make a four and a half length winning stable debut over course and distance eight days ago.

He can take another step forward for that effort and while this looks like a slightly deeper contest, he's still 2lb ahead of the handicapper under the 6lb penalty.

Conditions look to be in his favour once more and he seems very fair value at a general price of 7/4.

1pt Win - Precious Spartan

Odds – 7/4
