Aidan O’Brien has suggested Coral-Eclipse Stakes winner Delacroix could head to either the Juddmonte International Stakes at York or the Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown as his next assignment.
Whilst disappointing in the Derby at Epsom, the colt relished the return to ten furlongs at Sandown on Saturday, beating Prince of Wales's Stakes hero Ombudsman in a thrilling renewal of the race.
Speaking to Sky Sports Racing, O'Brien said: "We were delighted with him, obviously in the Derby Ryan (Moore) felt he just got squeezed out at the top of the hill and his chance had gone then so he nursed him.
"Before the Derby he was working like a classy mile-and-a-quarter horse and Ryan had it in his head that he could even be a miler, he always felt he had a lot of pace.
"I don't know what he did the last two furlongs but I can imagine the fractions were very quick.
All options, including a run in the Group 1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp, seemed possible after Delacroix's Sandown victory but the Juddmonte International and the Irish Champion Stakes have been raised as likely possible targets.
A run in the Juddmonte International Stakes could see Delacroix take on fellow three-year-old Field Of Gold, the runaway winner of the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot.
"We're not sure about what next, we'll see how he is first and then the lads (owners) will chat to Ryan and chat amongst themselves and then tell us where they'd like to go," added O'Brien.
"Obviously the two big ones would be York (Juddmonte International, August 20) or Leopardstown (Irish Champion Stakes, September 13), both or one so we'll see how he is and they'll decide what they want to do then."
