Captain Mike and Grand Bay lead a strong morning of gallops.
The Champ de Mars witnessed another productive morning of workouts as preparations intensified ahead of the 2025 racing season. Under clear blue skies and on a perfectly conditioned track, several stables opted for serious gallops, making full use of the favourable conditions.

Among those who sent out their horses for fast work were Vincent Allet, Ramapatee Gujadhur, Rameshwar Gujadhur, Samraj Mahadia, Selvom Mootien, Shirish Narang, and Vicky Ruhee. Select gallops were also recorded from the Arveen Nagadoo yard, while Preetam Daby, Carl Hewitson, and Amar Sewdyal focused on trotting and light canters.
Highlights of the Morning:
- Captain Mike stood out over 800 metres, showcasing a sharp turn of foot in the home straight.
- Grand Bay delivered a statement performance over 1000 metres, decisively getting the better of his decorated stablemate, Allez Moris.
- Elmo and Havana Moon went stride for stride over 1000 metres, displaying complete satisfaction throughout their workout.
- Opague worked solo over 1000 metres, impressing observers with a sustained uphill gallop.
- Wugug and Zoomie galloped in unison over 800 metres, finishing with full satisfaction.
- High Key, fitted with a headband, pacifiers, and drop noseband, turned in a notably eye-catching 800-metre workout.
- Amancio, Port Louis, and The Mauritian were all equipped with tongue-ties during their gallops.
- Zygi engaged in a workout with a different sparring partner Emerald Band as part of his continued build-up.
The Mauritius Turf Club commends all participating yards for the professionalism and discipline shown during the morning session. With just weeks to go before the long-awaited season opener, preparations are well on track for a thrilling return to racing at the Champ de Mars.
