After two relatively quiet mornings, the Champ de Mars came alive today with no fewer than 86 horses clocking fast workouts, while many others were seen doing lighter routines. The buzz on the track was palpable, signalling that preparations are now in full swing ahead of the long-awaited season opener.

One of the highlights of the morning was the return of South African jockey Denis Schwarz, who was granted clearance earlier this week. Back in the saddle for the Vincent Allet stable, Schwarz rekindled a successful partnership that dates back to 2022, when he rode eight winners from 37 starts. His first mount today, Master Point, impressed in a 1200m gallop, showcasing a sharp turn of foot up the hill.

Also drawing attention was Hubble, fitted with a drop noseband, who turned in a particularly sharp 1000m gallop — strong signs that he is primed for his seasonal debut. Walls Of Dubrovnik, crowned Champion Horse in 2022, looked every bit the star as he powered through his workout with a dazzling finish in the straight.

All eyes were on the probable runners for next Saturday's Fashion Heights Duchess of York Cup, as Good Council and Meridius teamed up for a blistering 1200m gallop. Both showed purpose and cohesion, hinting at a thrilling showdown to come.

The seasoned pair Chosen Way and Quatro Five Six also caught the eye, working side by side in a display that combined speed with veteran composure — suggesting they are nearing peak fitness for their return to competition.

From the Preetam Daby yard, Dunzie, one of only two fillies in the stable, turned heads with a standout 600m time. Most of her stable companions were kept to light canter and trot work.

Among others to stand out during the session were Ziva La Winter, Captain Mike, River Hawk, Global Glory, High Key, and Stepping Out — all of whom impressed with their condition and movement.

With such intensity and quality on display, anticipation continues to build as the curtain raiser draws near.
